CINQUE TERRE MOSAIC

Nestled into the hillsides,
multi-colored as a tropical reef.
A mosaic of homes and shops
merging into the Gulf of Genoa.

The village of Riomaggiore is one of the five villages making up Cinque Terra Coast, Italy.

I refer to this painting as "one big pointillism."

While I limit the use of actual pointillism to the water and some wall and trees, the apartments themselves serve as very large blobs of color.

Remember, I do not try to outline everything! using pen and ink over the watercolor gives me a dark line that will show through the layers of pastels.

Using  pastel pencils over the layers of pastels gives me a visible and harmonious line.

The goal is to create visual excitement with random lines.

I do love working with this much detail, but understand the time commitment before you tackle this type of subject.
